In the S. tuberosum group phureja crops, mineral fertilizer and organic amendments are applied to meet the plants´ nutritional demands, however the effect of such practices on the associated rizospheric microbial communities are still unknown. Nitrogen plays an important role in agricultural production, and a great diversity of microorganisms regulates its transformation in the soil, affecting its availability for the plant. Efeito do boro na nodulação da ervilha cultivada em solos de várzea PAB

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do boro na nodulação da ervilha (Pisum sativum L. cv. Torta de Flor Roxa), cultivada em solos de várzea em condições de casa de vegetação, entre maio e julho de 1998. Amostras de Neossolo Flúvico, Gleissolo Háplico, Gleissolo Melânico e Organossolo Mésico artificialmente drenado foram coletadas na camada de 0-20 cm. Essas amostras foram previamente cultivadas com rabanete, e receberam calcário, P, K, S, Cu e Zn e seis doses de B (0,0, 0,25, 0,5, 1,5, 3,0 e 6,0 mg dm-3). O bioacúmulo de minerais, a fixação de nitrogênio e a concentração de pigmentos em Azolla caroliniana foram estabelecidos sob estresse nutritivo. As culturas foram mantidas em frascos de poliestireno, utilizando gradiente de fosfato entre 10-7 e 10-3 mol.L-1. Os minerais (P, S, B e Sn) foram quantificados por espectrometria de emissão ótica com plasma de acoplamento induzido e o teor de nitrogênio pelo método de Kjeldahl. A atividade da nitrogenase foi determinada pela reação de redução do acetileno e as concentrações de pigmentos foram determinadas por fotometria nos extratos metanólicos acidificados. Effect of water stress on nitrogen fixation and nodule structure of common bean PAB

The aim of this work was to investigate the effect of water stress on N2 fixation and nodule structure of two common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivars Carioca and EMGOPA-201. Plants were harvested after five and eight days of water stress. Carioca had lower nodule dry weight on both water stress periods; shoot dry weight was lower at five days water stress and did not differ from control after eight days stress. Both cultivars had lower nitrogenase activity than control after five and eight days water stress. For both cultivars, after eight days stress bacteroid membranes were damaged. Carioca presented more pronounced damage to infected tissue, with host cell vacuolation and loss of the peribacteroid membrane at five days after stress; at eight days...

Glutamine synthetase and glutamate synthase activities in relation to nitrogen fixation in Lotus spp. Rev. Bras. Fisiol. Veg.

Lotus corniculatus, L. tenuis, L. pedunculatus, and L. subbiflorus inoculated with Mesorhizobium loti NZP2037 strain were grown in a growth chamber. The plants dry weight (DW), the nodule fresh weight (FW), the nitrogenase activity, the nodule glutamine synthetase (GS) and glutamate synthase (GOGAT) activities, as well as the leghemoglobin content and the amino acid in the stem were measured 28 days after inoculation. The highest DW of plants was measured in L. tenuis and the highest FW of nodules was measured in L. pedunculatus. Nitrogenase activity in L. tenuis, L. pedunculatus and L. subbiflorus was six fold the activity in L. corniculatus. Nodule GS and GOGAT activities did not follow this same pattern. Nitrogenase activity of Beijerinckia derxii is preserved under adverse conditions for its growth BJM

In order to evaluate the response of Beijerinckia derxii ICB-10 to different environmental factors, growth curves and specific nitrogenase activity were studied. Tested conditions were as follows: a) media with different pH values (2.5, 2.8, 4.2 and 5.7); b) medium supplemented with 230 µM aluminium sulphate; c) media with two different potassium phosphate concentrations (50 mM and 100 mM); d) shaken or still cultures; e) medium supplemented with 40 mM sodium thiosulphate. Growth curves and specific nitrogenase activity at pH 4.2 were closely similar to those for cultures at pH 5.7 (standard condition), whereas no growth occurred at pH 2.5. Phosphorus is one of essential nutrient element not only for plant growth but also for enhancing soil microorganisms. Phosphorus currently has been attributed to influence nitrogenase activity of nitrogen fixing microorganisms. This experiment aimed to study the interaction between phosphorus and nitrogenase activity of Azospirillum. The P sources came from soil, rock phosphate and activity of Bacillus megaterium. CRD with 4 replications, using Suwan 5 maize as the test plant, was carried in 2 experiments.
